Addressing School Safety

The tragedy in Broward County Florida yesterday, February 14, reminds us all of the importance of safety and security at Southern Wells Community Schools. Our prayers are with the affected families and the entire Parkland community.

We want to assure our families that our district has an updated school safety plan that has been created/reviewed in collaboration with local law enforcement. Members of our staff have been trained on the specifics of this plan, and we conduct periodic drills to ensure that everyone knows their role during a crisis.

Our schools also have specific protocol for entry to the buildings, and we appreciate the understanding of our parents as we enforce these protocols and building access control for the safety of our children. The safety of our students remains our highest priority.

Any questions or concerns may be directed to building Principals or myself.

Southern Wells Construction Trades Accepting Projects

Poneto, IN. - Southern Wells Construction Trades program through the Area 18 CTE Co-op, has begun accepting applications for 2018-2019 school year projects. The program, which allows students to gain real world experience in construction techniques and building processes, will be in its second year under the direction of teacher and master tradesman Tracy Gentis.

This program “provides our students with the opportunity to expand their learning outside the classroom in an environment that is both interactive and educational in the art of construction” says Tracy Gentis, teacher of the program. “There is no better way to learn this type of trade.”
